Elevator Pitch: An Ergonomic Business Idea

Below I wrote out my pitch for you to follow along or for later reference. There is background noise in the video as well, which makes it hard to hear clearly. Sorry! Enjoy!

Say your friends granted you the nickname The Hunchback of Notre Damn, would you like that? Let me ask you, Do you have nice feet, nice enough that you wouldn't mind staring at them 24/7 for the rest of you life? Simply, working-class people are just not enough aware of workplace ergonomics. Ergonomics is the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment; it is the science of designing the workplace. We want to reduce risk factors that lead to musculoskeletal injuries with an installable desktop tool called Raise. Raise will allow for us to create a better tomorrow, we will improve human performance and productivity by granting individuals a comfortable position to endure long-hours at a desk. This product is similar to an art easel, but not only artists should be granted productive freedom. Raise is an angled platform with a 15 inch desk-like surface equipped with no slip gripping rubber and is designed to be installed into desktops where it can be retracted out of the desk and pop up and retract back down, thus not taking away any prior desk space. It is angled and installed at a height and distance that will help with poor posture and back and neck pains. The plat-formed incline grants consumers a relaxed, less tense position to do work in for ultimately optimal work performance. Raise will help students, teachers, employees, officials, and many more, our starting investment to brand this idea will cost around $200,000 and investors will see an increase twofold on their investment in about a year. We lack to feel the need to improve our bodies, so let us rise above flatness and straighten out our future.

  1. Hi Nicole,

Your idea about desk ergonomics is very interesting. I work at a job where I am sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen, sometimes for 9 hours per day. It does take a toll on the body, as I am unusually tired after being sedentary all day. Additionally, I think the reference regarding the name calling makes it very real situation for people.

  2. Hey Nicole,
I think this is an awesome idea. I can't tell you how often my studying or working at my job has been hindered by my back or neck cramping from the awful posture I'm forced into from the chair I'm sitting in. I also never really considered the market for workplace ergonomics and I think it looks like a great area with my opportunities like this one.
